This part of the documentation explains how to access the system and run jobs. It will also provide guidance on transferring files to and from your laptop (local machine). Before starting, it is helpful to understand that the system relies on Linux, and that the main way to interact with it is via the command line. We host some tutorials on MIB Practice for beginners to learn the basics of command line and data management. Read about them here.
We recommend that users rely on their laptop (local environment) for the graphical part of their work; the server will be almost fully dedicated to operational activities. We highly recommend that Windows users use Mobaxterm, as it is a full-featured toolbox that implements many protocols. Users who have difficulty with commands can use this software for terminal access, a graphical file explorer, and some basic remote graphical server functions. Advanced Windows users can use WSL to simulate a Linux environment on their Windows laptops. MacOS users benefit from a Linux-like environment and can access the server directly via Mac Terminal. To make using the server more comfortable, we recommend installing Termius, Tabby, Royal TS or Transmit for data transfer.
Connexion to the server is made via SSH protocol, all the above mentioned software offers SSH connection type. For file transfer often, RSYNC or SCP are used.
