Q. What happens if I type my password too many times?

A. After failing to give the correct password 3 times in 1 minute, your account will be deactivated for 30minutes

Q. How do I change my password?

A. First of all, make sure you understand the difference between password and the passphrase that you set for your ssh keys. To change you password, login and enter the command passwd. You will be asked for,

1. Current password
2. New password (longer than 13 and has at least 2 digits, 2 special characters and at least 2 capital letters and at least 2 lower case letters)
3. Confirm new password
   
   

Q. Can I use an empty passphrase for my ssh keys?

A. It is not allowed, as an empty key represents a major security breach. Accounts of users with empty passphrases will be deactivated and can only be opened after meeting with their group leaders.

Q. I get, "could not resolve hostname" when I try to login. What is happening?

A. This can mean many things,

1. check that you are connected to the WUR VPN and any other VPN is deactivated.
2. make sure the IP of the server has been set correctly, 10.124.35.35
3. Ask a colleague to login
4. If all of the above fails, contact IT support via bioinfo.mib@wur.nl
   
   

Q. Where can I find Bioinfo documentation and tutorials?

A. There is no definite place yet as all effort are not coordinate from the same place. Every group will have their specific slack groups and sharepoint. There is a common sharepoint for all MIB. For bioinformatics, we advise using https://git.wur.nl/afsg-microbiology/education/tutorials to share and also access tutorials.
